Dave Taylor - Open Door

Dave Taylor
"Open Door"

Raku clay, reduction fired lustre glaze
8" x 7.5" x 7"
$1,650.00

Open Door is an interpretation of a small slice of life that may have appeared in a dream. To me it is a positive and colorful view of what my imagination is capable. The triangular elements on the tower may be a ladder to climb to reach a goal or part of a larger piece of machinery used to shred vegetables. In any event the shapes of the sculpture make an interesting showcase for the predominantly blue color of the luster glaze and can draw the viewer in to look more closely at the shapes, colors, and texture of the composition. Wondering through the sculpture you can imagine it on a larger scale as a surreal landscape. When "Open Door" was created it was as though my hands had a mind of their own. After a short period of time the left side of my brain was back in control and the basic form was in place. One piece of the world through one person's eyes.
